Romantasy Cabaret has had seven successfully sold out shows to date and we are gearing up for our next big one at a sparkling new venue with gleaming new acts and this time we are looking to add live music to our event.

This show is at a new venue and with that come some minor changes. OCT 18 2008 Doors- 7pm, showtime 7:30 concert room and 8:30 cabaret room

Our ticketing and seating tiers are slightly different.
VIP Front Row reserved is $33 per person
Reserved VIP (all tables behind front row) $23
And General Admission, no chair guaranteed is $18
See the bands ONLY no cabaret show- $5 night of show

Please keep in mind that our shows are always more than 3 hours long so standing up all night, especially when your knees weaken as Dolly takes the stage, will be a real chore!

Additionally please inform us if you need to be seated in a group, when buying tickets separately, or if you have some special need like wheelchair access or a seat away from the speakers, or what have you, so we can try our best to accommodate you. Telling us the night of the show wont work since we assign every seat, and of course, sell out every show.

Bad news for NATIUM

We have really gone and done it this time! Our shenanigans, tomfoolery, hijinx and crossing lines has all finally caught up to us and we are in big trouble. We have had to depart dusty Phoenix in search of hiding spots in an unknown location. The law is out to get us and we aint got much time. I can see that long arm already and it smells like bacon!

So I hope we have left you with fond memories but now we bid adieu and hope our crime spree doesnt play out on the "tube" anytime soon or on Cops, Jail or Street Patrol.
I mean how could we have thought we'd get away with it all these years? From Gangsters to mob bosses' daughters, from pimpin to ho-in, from knives, guns and poison to ropes, nooses and killing in cold blood, the whole morbid combo was bound to catch up with us.

Farewell Natium fans. See you in a far far away land under disguise. If you recognize us in your travels, the secret hello is "Have you seen Aju?" We will know you to be friend not foe.

Romantasy Cabaret- Box office is closing soon

Hello fans of the Romantasy Cabaret!

Our show this Saturday June 7th is nearly sold out. We wanted to let you know that the box office closes a few days prior to the show so that we can process all transactions as well as work on the seating for the show. If you have not yet purchased tickets but wanted to wait until the last minute, the last minute is here.

Should you wait until the day of the show we will only have a limited number of Standing Room spots available and I know you do not want to stand for a 3 hour show!

Remember we are now at THE SETS in Tempe. South, East Corner of Mill and Southern conveniently near the Mill Ave Exit off the 60.

Bohemian Cabaret- Aug 16th in Tempe

Think Bellydancers, Tramps & Freaks! La Nouvelle Danse de Cirque!

Most of you know I have been working on this idea for several months now and it is coming to fruition. August 16 is the date for this affair and I am presently working on the press release and promotional information.
Before I can complete that I need to know who is going to perform in this event.

So far I have Natium, my bellydance troupe who will perform an oldey timey saucy dance set. I have Ban Dal from Orange County California, our tribal sisters out west who will be doing a 1940s themed bit. We also have Michelle Reynolds from San Fran coming to hot ol AZ to show us some her her sassy assy burlesque! Soliel is saying they'd like to take part in the show as well which means live music! Hells Yeah! And I am pretty certain the Naughty Knickers are taking part in this one too (Heidi?).

And that is just the preliminary info. So my question now is this; are you interested in taking part in this show? Themes can range from saucy bellydance (think Mata Hari) to burlesque (old classic is my fave but that doesnt mean modern will be shunned) to past eras-inspired pieces to even the arty and unusual. We can perform with fire in this venue IF you can show me current, up to date insurance. I welcome use of props as well and partial nudity is ok (pasties and G strings at the very least).

This is a CABARET In the true sense of the word, not referring to what we usually use to define a type of bellydance. Think of a Vegas show complete with showgirls, dance numbers and yes, perhaps even some bellydancers. This is an event where all artistic expression of experimental bellydance and dance styles are WELCOMED!
You in or what? I'd love to have you and/or your troupe!

New tanks are here

Our 2008 troupe tank tops have arrived, only mildly different, yet still spicy, with a bit larger of a logo. No more squinting to read what it says.
The front reads Natium World Dance in fuchsia, with our standard lotus flower logo and Good Girls on the breast rather than down low. The backside, in red hot red, Diabolique Unconventional Entertainment with Bad Grrrls across the bottom.
The tanks are black and nice and roomy. No rising up the belly, no falling off the shoulders, no cramming the taters in.
Sizes are S, M, L and XL.

With a long silky gloved arm, Diabolique beckons to you from behind a heavy velvet drapery.
This Phoenix area troupe, known for their hit production in 2007, Romantasy Cabaret, Dirty Little Secrets, brings audiences another show season with Opulent Dreams, A journey into fantasy, opulence, and the antithesis of reality.

Once again, this group of entertainers mixes song, dance, comedy, and magical hijinx, with vaudeville, circus, and of course burlesque, to whet all appetites. This three-act extravaganza boasts a cast and crew of about twenty to thirty creative arty types from the Phoenix area, monthly starting in June in 2008 at The Sets. They present the greater Phoenix area with naughty, brash and off-color humor, along with their freakshow-to-amazing feats acts and seductive burlesque entertainers. Attendees will be treated various combinations of songs of hilarity by local funny-man & singer Tom Tuerff, strange and grotesque acts by Mother Fakir, as well as juggling tricks. They will also be treated to various fire performances with Lotta Payne and Anya Knees and of course, dangerous acts of twirling and spinning weaponry with Motley Sue. Little Egypt doses up the audience with her snake-like dancing and shimmying hips. Burlesque is presented by local favorite, Lolita Haze, newcomer Dolly Diamonds, as well as by The High Pimpstress. Opulent Dreams serves up dancing dames, brought to you by Diabolique’s crew of dancing chorus girls. Your hostess, Lucy Morals has a mouth like a sailor and is not for the faint of heart. Howdy, everybody!

Here's the scoop: On Sunday, April 27 I will be one of eight acts playing app. 1/2-hour sets at THE SETS, a bar with a big performance area on the corner of Southern and Mill. Some of you are probably already familiar with it.

Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Which is where you come in.

If you think you'd like to come see me play here, have a beer, watch some of the other acts, etc., I REALLY NEED you to buy advance tickets from me sometime between now and the show.

The way this particular gig works, we all get paid, but how MUCH we get paid depends on how many butts we get through the door from pre-sold tickets.

Those who sell the most tickets get their pick first of when they want to go on (i.e., what slot they want). Personally, I don't want to be last, but I don't want to be first, either. The first act goes on at 6:30, while everybody's still filing in and trying to figure out who they're gonna barf on if they drink too much.

However, I also realize that this is a SUNDAY, and most of you have to work in the morning (as do I) and you probably don't want to stay TOO late.

So here's my proposal: Help me sell tickets to this event by buying one or two yourself from me between now and the day of the show. I'm shooting for 30 people, but the more the merrier. IN RETURN, if I'm not stuck being the opening act anyway, I will shoot for a slot between 7 and 8:30 p.m. That way, if you want to stick around for the acts after me, you can, or you can head on home after that.

I have no idea what the other bands on the docket sound like, except for two of them that happened to have myspace sites. Neither one is awful. I do, however, think that I might be the OLDEST act there, but since I'm funny that doesn't really matter.

You can buy tickets directly from me or you can even use PayPal, to the address ttuerff@aol.com. Include your address and I'll mail the tickets to you.

I'm doing this a month in advance, because I figure some of you haven't made plans yet, and the sooner you all know about it, the more people I might actually get to show up!

There will be workshops on the 3rd and 4th and a big ass party Saturday night with live music. (Yay!!)

Friday, March 7 - w/Alien Jon & assistant Tricia: $40 covers both classes
• 6-7:00 Fundamental forms of modern poi $20 - Covers fundamental poi concepts, exercises, and poi scales. Indispensable for the beginner, fill in holes for intermediate spinners, and give advanced spinners a chance to delve deeply into the foundation that makes all advanced moves easy to learn and flow with.
• 7-8:00 Advanced Poi and technical concepts $30 - Covers an advanced model and understanding of the spin zones around the human body so that you can spin anywhere in any orientation including behind the head and back or under the legs. This also includes inside planes and inswings in between the arms all around the body. Further exploration in the body and poi relationships as time sculpture: tracing geometry through time. This yields incredible feelings and unbelievable visual effects for your audience. NATIUM World Dance & Kahlea will be hosting 2008's Bohemian Nights, a bellydance collection. The showcase will be a monthly or every other monthly showcase of all types of bellydance. Alterna-cirque bellies WELCOME!

Shows will take place at a venue in the Tempe area and will have an oldey timey, circus side-show, exotic feel. Bellydancers of all disciplines are welcome from:

Traditional : Egyptian, Turkish, Orientale, Persian, etc...
Tribal: ATS, World Tribal, Fusion, Modern Fusion, and Goth Fusion
World dance: West African, Eastern Euro folk, Flamenco, Zambra, Folklorico
Circus/show dance: Little Egypt, Mata Hari, Aerialists, themed...

Enter another place and time where world fusion bellydance company, NATIUM World Dance, known for blending various world dance flavors with bellydance, hosts Bohemian Nights, A bellydance cirque. This showcase of talent takes place in 2008 at _________, in Tempe Arizona.
As audiences wander in they are greeted with sights, sounds and scents evocative of exotic destinations, worlds away, and of times forgotten. From the rich looking textiles and decorations from other countries, to the sounds of worlds coming together under one roof, audiences will feel as though traveling to mysterious, foreign lands. Wander through the mini bazaar to barter, haggle and bid on unique objects d'arte from artisans and vagabonds.

Each Bohemian Nights showcase kicks off with a free mini bellydance lesson to familiarize the audience with this art form and to incite excitement for the dance jam later. Then, Bohemian Nights becomes a two hour-long showcase of dancers, ranging from student performers showing off what they've learned in classes, to semi-professionals desirous of more exposure, to special professional dancer guest stars who will light up the night. Some performers will dance with props such as swords, Chinese fans, fire, veils, skirts and more. After each event, the dance floor opens up for all dancers, whether in the show or in the audience, to get up and take part in an open-floor bellydance soiree, into the night. Performers from the show come out to dance and migle with the audience and to do a meet and greet. The showcase becomes a party for all to participate.

These events are for 21 and over crowds only, as the venue serves liquor. Come hungry too as the menu has tasty treats from appetizers to delicious grilled burgers.

A portion of ticket sales will be donated to a charity or used to benefit a local business selected by NATIUM World Dance, with a different charity or business selected for each show. Raffle tickets sold will also benefit these select organizations, with all proceeds donated to that charity or business. Gratuities and tips are always appreciated, a portion of which may also be donated to the charity or business selected as well.

The *SiStars of the BoomBah* express a new form of Tribal Fusion. Belly
Dance now comes "Unboxed"!

Belly Dance is let out of the box in this workshop, taking traditional
movement and learning how to flow it through the body continuously. We
will drill basic technique and add on an interesting layer of transition
to snake throughout the body. We will do this by taking pieces of moves
and connecting them with other moves to make a whole new dance language.
We will focus on breaking and connecting layers of movement and learn a
short choreography.

About the Instructor:
Mia Donna was born in Ohio and raised on horseback. She spent her young
life rescuing and rehabilitating horses and working with Mustangs
brought into captivity. When she started college in 1999, she was
quickly drawn into the dance program and began studying African and
Modern technique. In 2001, Mia Donna became interested in Belly Dance
and set out for a teacher. She found three and studied intensely
through advanced level technique, teacher training, dance as a holistic
practice and performance etiquette. Through her college studies, she
was able to complete an intensive research project on the origin,
history and development of Belly Dance and create a fitness program in
dance. Today, Mia Donna is an active teacher in traditional cabaret,
tribal, aerobic, and her own style of Belly Dance, Liquid Fusion Break
Beat. She performs with Troupe Gypsy Soul out of Ohio and the
experimental dance project named Star Kids. Now living in Sedona, she
is directing her new Troupe, rightfully named *SiStars of the BoomBah*.
Mia Donna continues her love of dance by continuing to study new forms
of movement expression. Currently, she is studying cardio hip hop and
jazz funk to expand her movement language.

Great news. Wayyyy back in the day we had a meet n greet and from that event we convinced four students to take their best shot at joining with our super force (arm twisting, water boarding, starvation all helped them to be "convinced"). We have four about to go through the traditional hazing rituals, pranks, intensive training, sweating, crying, and severe punishments!
We have one from intermediate level tribal already starting her very tedious audition process and the other three from Basic level begin their journey in 2008.

What a great few weeks of holiday it has been

We take May off for Tribal fest where Kahlea is teaching in 2008 (yay!) and we take of December for a month of rest.

Vending space will also be available for those who sell bellydance related wares. Info on that later.

New City Ordinance Prohibiting the Use of Personal Digital Assistants While Driving (sending or receiving written text message)

The City of Phoenix has adopted a new ordinance, G-4985, prohibiting a person operating a motor vehicle from sending or receiving a written text message while the vehicle is in motion. The ordinance takes effect September 20,2007, but only authorizes a warning through October 19th. As of October 20th officers may cite (nonmoving civil traffic violation) for violations.

In order to cite, officers need probable cause that;

1. a person operating a motor vehicle
2. while on a street
3. used a personal digital assistant (see definition below)
4. to send or receive
5. a written message
6. while the motor vehicle is in motion

While officers may stop a driver on reasonable suspicion of a violation, citations should only be issued upon probable cause.

This section does not apply to any of the following:

1. Law enforcement and safety personnel.

2. Drivers of authorized emergency vehicles.

3. Holders of commercial driver licenses while driving within the scope of their employment.

4. Public transit personnel.

5. A person who is reporting reckless or negligent behavior.

6. The use of a personal digital assistant for the sole purpose of communicating with any of the following regarding an emergency situation:

(a) an emergency response operator.

(b) a hospital, physician’s office or health clinic.

(c) a provider of ambulance services.

(d) a provider of fire fighting services.

(e) a law enforcement agency.

7. A person who believes the person is in physical danger if the person is the only adult in the motor vehicle.

Guest artists include the multi-talented musicians Naser Musa and Georges Lammam, and the legendary dancer/insructor Dahlena. Come see live music that is sizzling, energizing, passionate and unforgettable! The band includes the mesmerizing vocal and instrumental stylings of Naser Musa and Georges Lammam with a rocking percussion section including master percussionist Souhail Kaspar, Majdi Kurd, Elissa, and Joe Borik. It will only be a jam/practice for what is learned in my classes, as well as fun games, challenges and variations on the material you already know form my classes. I will also critique, fine tune, and help individuals with what they already know from my classes. This is also a splendid chance for those doing our 2008 Bohemian Nights shows to work on show material.

MECDA Picnic in Nov.? Who's in??

Hey everybody... our MECDA chapter is planning a celebration of our first year. Here's what we have in mind.....
An all day picnic at Papago Park at the ramada near the lake tentatively set for the first Sunday in Nov., including all day performances - as many as we can get - on the ampitheater stage. It's a beautiful setting and we'd like it to be a very relaxed community gathering.

The stage is about 20 x 20 but in a hexagonal shape. I think it could accomodate groups of up to 5. We'd like to the lineup to reflect the diversity of styles we have in the community and therefore want to include as many of our AZ dancers as possible.

The preliminary plans have been checked out. What we need is to know that the community is willing to come out and dance and participate. There will be no admission, but donations to defray the cost of the event will be accepted. Before we put down the money on the event and invest our time in more planning, we'd like to know that people are interested in coming out and supporting it.

In addition to dancers, we'll need some volunteers both in preparation and on the day of the event. The park has power for a sound system, but we a system to plug into it for amplified performance music. It would have been nice to include live music but the park rules don't allow live amplified music :-( - damn! I'm not sure if that excludes acoutstic instruments.

So what do you think?

Natium Tank Tops for Sale!

We will be carrying more of our cute little girly tanks in 2007. I will have them in classes as well as at our shows.
They will be black and the front reads in fucshia "Natium World Dance" with our logo the lotus flower and at the bottom it says "good girls".
The backside says in scarlett "Diabolique Unconventional Entertainment" with our devil's tail logo and at the bottom it reads "Bad Grrrls".
We will be selling the tanks for $20 or 2/$35.00. The sizes run S-XL and they are sized generously and nice and long.
Wear yours to a show and add your fave hipbelt and come shake it with us during open dance!

classes this summer

Here's what I have scheduled for this summer:

Tuesdays-Alternating Tuesdays I will be in Tucson one week, and West Phx the next week.

TUCSON- placement classes are June 5 to assess what students need to be placed in what level class. Message me if you intend to attend my classes in Tucson.

PHX, WEST SIDE-
Fundamentals
Basic Tribal

Wednesdays-
Fundamentals of Bellydance
Advanced Level Tribal (Private troupe class)

Saturdays-
Fundamentals
Basic Level Tribal
Intermediate Level Tribal

summer auditions!

I have a list of eight interested parties. If you havent contacted me within the past week, you dont know our first meeting date for auditions so you should get ahold of me quickly.
Our auditions are low stress, fun and easy so come one come all! All levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) all sects of dance ( Indian, West African, Folkloric, Flamenco, Hula, Tribal, Traditional Cabaret, etc...)

We have several openings b/c we have to lose three of our girls this summer due to impending moves far far away....waaaaa
